Candice’s Bridal Diary: Denial

Rollercoaster of denial

I’m getting married in 3 weeks. I’M getting married in 3 weeks. I thought perhaps seeing it in print would help me believe it, but it seems my brain is still firmly stuck in the “denial” phase of acceptance.

We’ve now been engaged for almost exactly 10 months. Our countdown started at just over 40 weeks, then recently (it seemed) we had just past the 40 days mark. Now, with 19 days to go, it seems as though 40 hours is around the corner.

It’s been a roller coaster ride – the highs of getting engaged, getting used to a beautiful sparkly on my finger…soon followed by slight disillusionment (brought on by the staggering costs of planning a wedding)…then the excitement of finding the perfect service providers, followed by the lull, before the final madness of the end stretch arrives.

And, the final stretch of madness is where I seem to be now. Except, it now seems a little hard to believe.  It’s now the week of my final wedding dress fitting, of finalizing table décor and sending wedding programs off to the printer.

It’s a roller coaster – and it seems as though the ride will never end. But when it starts slowing down and it comes to taking your seatbelt off, it feels a little unnatural.

With 19 days of this ride to go, I’m trying to enjoy every minute of it. Absorb it all, record every minute – as soon, our next adventure will start-  as Mr and Mrs Bresler. As a wife, attached to the man I love, for life.

So, a little advice for brides to be – there will be times when you’re run off your feet trying to get things done, and times when it seems you have nothing wedding-related to do – enjoy them all. Before you know it, this phase of your lives will be over, and your new adventure as husband and wife will begin.
