Wedding Flowers and Symbolism – Carnations

Next up in our series of posts about Wedding Flowers and their Symbolism, we look at Carnations. Carnations (Dianthus caryophyllus) are a great choice as wedding flowers as they are readily available, are reasonably priced and if you are into symbolism, there is lots to work with! Light red carnations represent admiration and the dark red carnations symbolise deep love and affection. White carnations represent pure love and good fortune and the striped carnations symbolise regret that a love cannot be shared.

Colours: The most popular colour choices for weddings are red, white and pink.
Symbolism and Meaning: Carnations express love, fascination and distinction but there are variations dependent on the colour used.
Best suited for: Carnations work very well in bouquets, boutonnieres, and arrangements.
Scent: Carnations have a very light fragrance, if any at all, dependant on the variety used.
In Season: Carnations are available most of the year.
Price Range: Reasonably inexpensive.
