There are a few things that have been ‘decided’ about our wedding, without us trying terribly much – choosing the wedding favour for guests was one of them. We knew from the start that we would not be giving sugar-coated almonds or jelly beans. Food and culinary treats are very important to me (we’re having a six-course tasting menu for our reception) so I wanted our gift to be something that guests would really enjoy having, and something a little different. I found a little inspiration in the form of my Twitter feed – one of the local companies I love and follow is NoMU, and realized that giving guests giving tins of their drinking chocolate would be perfect. As our wedding is in autumn (late April) it will be the perfect, warming reminder of our special day as our guests near chilly winter evenings.
Here are a few more ideas for wedding favours that are a little different (no almonds included):
PLANTS AND HERBS
Beautiful mini pots or tins with fresh herbs (basil or mint are great choices) or even lavender would make gorgeous gifts. Set at each place setting, their fragrance will waft over your table, and it will also make your table decorating so much easier!
JAM AND PRESERVES
You can either buy your favourite brand, and then have a special ‘wedding’ label made with a message for your guests. Or, you could always make these yourself – strawberry and vanilla jam, preserved figs, or even a sweet red onion relish (great on burgers and sandwiches).
PERSONALISED MUSIC
If you’d prefer to give a non-edible gift, a CD filled with you and your partner’s favourite songs is a lovely, personal gift – a reminder of your wedding every time your guests play the CD. You could even use a personalized USB stick!
